Smarter greetings when a contact name includes a title or initials

Improvement·

When you greet a customer by their first name in an email or document, Payaca now works out whether a real first name is present, or whether to use the full name.

Contact names imported from another system often include a title, initials, or a couple's names. Using the first name variable now produces a natural greeting in every case, without you needing to clean up your contact list or change your templates.

How greetings are chosen

  • Title and full name: "Mr John Smith" is greeted as "Dear John"
  • Title and surname only: "Mr Jones" is greeted as "Dear Mr Jones"
  • Initials: "Mr J Smith", "JP Smith" or "L.C. Braden" use the full name (not "Dear J")
  • Couples: "John & Jane Smith" or "Mr & Mrs Wood" also use the full name
  • Ordinary names: "John Smith" uses "Dear John", just as before

Where it applies

You don't need to edit your existing templates. The updated greeting applies everywhere Payaca uses a customer's first name:

  • Email and document templates using \{\{customer.primaryContact.firstName\}\}
  • Proposal, estimate, invoice and change proposal emails using [customer_first_name]
  • Automation emails and texts using the primary contact's first name variable
